Why to visit Parson Valley Reservoir

Parsons Valley is a reserved forest area and a part of Mukurthi National Park. The valley was named after Parson, a British engineer who happened to discover this valley way back in 1862 and was instrumental in developing it into one of the most beautiful sites near Ooty from where numerous trekking routes commence. The valley is a flawless nature setting with flowing streams, little waterfalls, and pine trees of Pandiar slopes, overwhelming forested regions and some uncommon creatures among them. The valley and its encompassing give a pleasant perspective of the Nilgiri Mountains.

Mukurthi National Park includes Parsons Valley, which is a protected forest area. The valley was named after Parson, a British engineer who discovered the valley in 1862 and was key in developing it into one of the most picturesque locations near Ooty, from whence many hiking routes begin. The valley is a perfect natural environment, with flowing streams, little waterfalls, and pine trees from the Pandiar hills, as well as vast forested areas and some unusual species. The valley and its surroundings provide a beautiful view of the Nilgiri Mountains.

Special Tip

Because the Parson Valley & Dam is located within the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, visitors must obtain permission from the forest office in Ooty.
