Why to visit Catherine Waterfalls

Catherine Falls is a double-cascading waterfall located in Kotagiri, on the Mettupalayam highway branching off at Aravenu, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ooty. It is the second largest waterfall in the Nilgiris and one of Ooty's most beautiful. River Kallar, which originates in the Geddhehaada Halla stream, cascades over the cliffs to produce the Catherine Falls.

Catherine Falls was named for M.D.'s wife, according to popular belief. Cockburn is credited with bringing coffee plantations to Kotagiri, but the name St. Catherine's Falls was already in use in 1852. Catherine Falls' native name is Geddhehaada Halla, which translates to "Foothills Dale River."
