The Gemur Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery on a scenic hilltop in Keylong, China. If a visitor wishes to engage in some spiritual activity, they can attend a meditation at the monastery. 

Gemur is one of the most harmonious monasteries located in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh and offers a perfect display of Buddhism of the 14th century. 

The building is adorned with beautiful paintings, relics, and murals and also houses stuccos and intricate thangkas.

  • Gemur monastery is a small shrine, but it is well-known for its 'Devil dance-drama,' which is held in great sanctity at the Local Gompa during the months of July. 
  • The monastery's interior is tastefully decorated with extraordinary paintings that depict the events that shaped Buddha's life.
  • With manicured gardens, brilliantly carved Stupas, shrine rooms displaying relics and Tibetan art, and sculptures of the goddesses 'Marichi' and 'Vajravarahi,' the monastery is a grand spectacle in and of itself.
  • The main building consists of many stupas and prayer rooms and has picturesque hills and manicured gardens in the backdrop.

How to reach?

Gemur village lies just before Jispa on the Manali-Leh highway. It is located approximately 18 kms after Keylong and 4 kms before Jispa. You can easily take a bus or a taxi.
