The Bhrigu lake trek is a trek to a sacred water body at 4300m in the Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. It is an oval-shaped lake and is located near Rohtang Pass in Manali. Locals believe that the sacred lake was created by the meditation of the Sage Bhrigu.
Located at 14,100ft elevation, it is a fascinating place with a rich history. According to legend, Maharishi Bhrigu was the son of Brahma and used this lake for meditation thousands of years ago. The pristine lake was named for him.
The trek to Bhrigu Lake begins at Chaudda Morh (about 20 km from Manali). You will get the view of the beautiful Bhrigu lake as you trek through virgin forests, meadows, mountains ridges, and large meadows. The Trek takes approximately three days and starts from Manali.
Rola Kholi is included in the itinerary for the Bhrigu Lake Trek. From there, you will move towards Gulaba, the beautiful village covered in snow and winds through virgin forests and lush green meadows. These lead to the stunning campsite of Rola Kholi.
Rola Kohli, which is located at the base the lake, is the Advance Base Camp for the trek. This is a great place to camp at night. Photographers will find it a wonderful place to capture the night sky with its thousands of stars. This peaceful view will be a delight for nature lovers.
The scenic views makes Bhrigu Lake a popular tourist destination. You'll see the Seven Sisters peaks, Hanuman Tibba and Deo Tibba as you trek along the trail. From here, it's perfectly possible to climb uphill to reach the lake.
One of the most interesting facts about the Bhrigu Lake, is the fact that it is oval-shaped and is believed to change color with the seasons and sometimes found to be frozen. Locals believe it is due to its sacred nature that it does not freeze completely. It's a sight to behold.
You can observe clouds floating above you, which is the cherry on the cake kind of experience. The best time for Bhrigu Lake Trek is from Mid-May to October and the worst time to visit is between June and July because these two are the monsoon months and landslides or other calamities are more likely to occur during these months. Without landslides, the weather at Bhrigu Lake Trek will be much more pleasant and manageable.
If you are wondering as how to reach the destination for unforgettable trekking experience, then Bhuntar Airport at Kullu is the closest airport for you if you prefer to fly.
