Why to visit Thotlakonda Buddhist Excavation

The Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex is located on a hill near Bheemunipatnam, approximately 15 kilometres from Vizag. The complex had provisions for storing food, clothing, and medicines, as well as serving as a religious and academic centre. The Indian Navy identified Thotlakonda as a potential location for a naval base. Following its discovery, the AP State Archaeology Department conducted extensive excavations in 1990. The excavations proved the existence of a Hinayana Buddhist complex that flourished over 2000 years ago.
