Why to visit Vellore Fort
The fort at Vellore is one of the district's most popular attractions. It is said to have been built in the mid-16th century A.D. by Chinna Boomi Nayaka, a subordinate of Sadasivaraya of the Vijayanagara Kingdom. In 1760, the British captured the fort and utilised it as a military stronghold. The three-kilometer-long rectangular fort is made entirely of enormous granite cut stones. Tipu Mahal, Begum Mahal, Kandi Mahal, Jalakanteswara Temple, a mosque, and a Church are among the secular and religious constructions found within the fort.
