Why to visit Chittorgarh Fort
The Chittorgarh Fort, sometimes known simply as Chittor, is a great example of well-known Rajput architecture and is majestically positioned on a hill measuring 590 feet in height and 692 acres in size. The later Maurya emperors added numerous entrances to the fort's magnificent structure. The Chittorgarh Fort was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013 due to its remarkable construction.
Attractions inside the Chittorgarh Fort:
- Vijay Stambha: Also known as Jaya Stambha, is a physical building that marks the Rana Kumbha's victory over Mahmud Shah I Khalji, the Sultan of Malwa.
- Tower of Fame: Also known as Kirti Stambha, it is a 22-meter-high tower constructed by Bagherwal Jain trader Jijaji Rathod and honors Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankara.
- Rana Kumbha Palace: The oldest structure in the Chittorgarh Fort is the Rana Kumbha Palace, the remnants of which can be found near the Vijaya Stamba entrance.
- Padmini's Palace: Also known as Rani Padmini's Palace, is a three-story building that serves as a recreation of the original palace from the 19th century.
- Gaumukh Reservoir: The name of this reservoir, which is close to the Samadheshwar temple, comes from the cow-shaped mouth that fills it with water. The word "gaumukh" means "mouth of a cow" in Hindi.
- Meera Temple: Meera Bai, a well-known poetess from Hindu mythology, dedicated her entire life in service to Lord Krishna.
- Kalika Mata Temple: Built in the fourteenth century, this shrine honors the Hindu goddess Kali.
- Fatehprakash Palace: Constructed under Rana Fateh Singh's rule and used as his palace, Fatehprakash Palace is a testament to the beauty and craftsmanship of Mewar.
