Why to visit Karikkakom Chamundi Temple

This ancient temple is surrounded on all sides by dense greenery, with tall luscious palms enclosing it. Goddess Chamundi is worshipped at the Karikkakom Devi Hindu temple. This temple, however, is unique in that it worships all three incarnations of Goddess Chamundi: Maha Chamundi, Rakhta Chamundi, and Bala Chamundi. The Karikkakom Sree Chamundi Devi Temple, which is almost 600 years old, adds to the historical significance and cultural richness of the small but thriving city of Karikkakom.

Most people are unaware of this temple's history, which includes the King choosing this temple as the location for bringing justice and punishing wrongdoers in the days when monarchy was prevalent. The accused were led before Rakhta Chamundidevi's sanctum, where they were urged to deposit 21 coins in the nada and tell the truth. Nobody would dare to lie since it was believed that the goddess would reward those who were truthful and punish those who lied and that would create a fear among the people.

Special Tip

The temple looks gorgeous during the pongal festival. You should try to match your visiting dates so that you don't miss out the amazing view of the temple.
