Why to visit The Ridge
The Ridge is well recognised for a variety of activities, but it's best known for its shopping and for serving as the city's social centre. The Ridge has it all, from stores selling rare artefacts to a panorama of snow-covered mountain ranges.
The Ridge, the most photographed wide-open roadway and iis situated in the centre of Shimla, the "British Summer Capital." The famous Mall Road attracts a sizable audience thanks to the abundance of cafes, bars, boutiques, shops, and restaurants that line the street.
It links to the well-known Scandal Point on the west end of the Mall Road and extends along its side from east to west. It connects to Shimla's most well-known wooden crafts bazaar, the Lakkar Bazaar, on its eastern side.
Significance of The Ridge
- It holds the water reservoir, which can hold one 1,000,000 gallons of water and is the city's lifeline.
- The Summer Festival is the most well-known event hosted here. The entire area is a riot of colours and activities during this festival, which occurs in April or May.
Folk dances, flower displays, cuisine festivals, ice skating festivals, and Himachali film festivals are among the festival's five-day extravaganza's main attractions.
- The Ridge hosts a Winter Sports Festival. The only location in Asia with a natural ice skating rink is Shimla. Typically, the ice skating tournament starts in December and lasts through February.
