The forest sanctuary is located 11 kilometres from Shimla in this area. The reserve forests cover almost 950 hectares of land, ranging in altitude from 2 to 2.5 kilometres. Right from this sanctuary, one may enjoy the stunning view of the most majestic Himalayan Mountains, including Deo Tibba, Chota Shali, Bandar Poonch, Rakta Dhar, etc.

  • This nature reserve is home to colourful plants and animals. The most common trees are Himalayan deodar, pine, oak, rhododendron, horse chestnut, and maple.
  • The area is also covered in exotic vegetation, including silver oaks and weeping willows. Cobra plants, wild strawberries, and other berries flourish during the monsoon season.
  • This sanctuary is home to diverse wildlife, including the kakkar (barking deer), jackal, leopard, Himalayan eagle, chikor, partridge, and pheasant.
  • The catchment is a significant water source for Shimla, with nine perennial streams passing through the region, including Churat Nala and God Ki Nala.
