Why to visit Grand Teton National Park
The largest mountain in the Teton Range, Grand Teton, inspired the name of Grand Teton National Park. Grand Teton, the second-highest summit in the range, rises suddenly over Jackson Hole at 13,775 feet (4,199 m), more than 7,000 feet (2,100 m) higher than Mount Owen. Ice that was up to 3,500 feet thick poured across the valley floor and down the mountains, sculpting sharp peaks like the Grand Teton and U-shaped valleys. There are currently twelve little glaciers in the national park, with half of them being located within the Cathedral Group, a cluster of the highest peaks in the range. The Grand Teton, which is the highest peak, rises 13,770 feet above sea level.
