Why to visit Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain is a world-famous tourist attraction that also doubles as a theatre prop! The gigantic monument has been featured in several films, including Roman Holiday, Three Coins in the Fountain, and even The Lizzie McGuire Movie, aside from La Dolce Vita, when Anita Ekberg jumped into the Trevi Fountain with her clothes on. Even Walt Disney World's Epcot has a duplicate of the fountain!
Fontana di Trevi, Rome's greatest fountain, is fed by an aqueduct built by Agrippa, the renowned art patron of the first century BC, to provide water to his baths. Nicol Salvi designed the fountain for Pope Clement XII and built it against the back wall of the Dukes of Poli's residence between 1732 and 1751.
This 17th-century masterpiece has been immortalised in films to the point where it is almost a required visit. It is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions. The habit of tossing a coin (not three) into the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) is said to ensure your return to Rome.
