Why to visit Pawas
Pawas is a small village in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district, located 6 kilometres from Ganeshgule and 17 kilometres from Ratnagiri. Sri Swami Swarupanand Samadhi Mandir, which attracts thousands of devotees each year, has made Pawas a significant pilgrimage destination.
Sri Swami Swarupanand took Samadhi here on August 15, 1974, and the Samadhi Mandir was built in his honour. Swami was born in Pawas on December 15, 1903, to Vishnupant and Rakhmabai Godbole. His given name was Ramchandra, although he was more commonly referred to as Bhau or Appa. Swami began his spiritual journey at the age of 20 when he received initiation from Sadguru Babamaharaj Vaidya of Pune. When he returned to Pawas, he practised religious discipline and devoted his time to studying Dnyaneshwari, Bhagvad Geeta, and Dasbodh in depth. Swami taught his followers the guru mantra 'Ram Krishna Hari,' which is still repeated today.
The temple is quite lovely, and walking around the grounds gives one a sense of deep satisfaction and calm. The Swami memorial and Anant Niwas, Swami's original house, are kept immaculately. There is a meditation chamber and a Lord Ganesh image carved into an Emlica tree on the premises of Swami's temple. The natural beauty and peacefulness of the location are well-known. On either side of the river in this settlement, there are temples devoted to Ganesha, Vishveshwar, and Someshwar Shiv.
