Why to visit Mandangad Fort

Mandangad and Bankot were created to protect the key commerce route that ran via the Savitri River. The mountain on which Mandangad is situated has two summits. There is a water tank on the taller one. The fortification is visible on the lower, flatter portion. The entryway has been destroyed, but the bastions have remained intact. The Ganesh temple has been rebuilt here. On a clear day, you can view the Savitri River, Raigad, and Varandha Pass.

Mandangad is supposed to have been erected by King Bhoj. It was ruled by Jaswantrao Dalvi, an Adilshahi Sardar, in 1661. During Shivaji Maharaj's heroic escape from Panhalgad, he was the one who attacked Vishalgad. Mandangad was on the road when Shivaji Maharaj beat Kartalabkhan and marched towards Dabhol. When Jaswantrao learned of this, he fled to Shringarpur, where Shivaji Maharaj easily captured him. For a long time, it was with Angres and Siddis. It was taken by the British in 1818.
