Why to visit Aga Khan Palace

One of the significant landmarks in Pune that provides insight into India's struggle for independence is the Aga Khan Palace. A memorial honouring Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi, who were under house imprisonment here, is situated on the banks of the Mula River.

Sultan Mohammad shah Aga Khan constructed this palace in 1892, primarily to aid those in Maharashtra who were stricken by the famine.

Additionally captivating its guests are the lovely, expansive lawns at Aga Khan Palace. Its five halls and stunning Italian arches will wow you. It has two stories, the first being approximately 1080 square metres in size and the second being 445 square metres. The 2.5-meter passage wraps around the entire structure.

The Gandhi Memorial Society is responsible for looking after this palace as well as the museums and monuments. The group has been successfully maintaining the entire complex and holding numerous exhibitions at the palace since 1980.

A store selling only Khadi and cotton clothing as well as handcrafted textiles can be found inside the Aga Khan Palace complex. Additionally, trainings are provided at the complex. Free trainings are also offered for persons with less stable financial circumstances.

Except on major holidays, it is accessible to visitors every day of the week. From nine in the morning until about five in the evening, you can tour the palace.
