Why to visit The Strand Arcade
The Arcade is the epicentre of Sydney's fashion and design. The Strand Arcade, named after London's most fashionable shopping area in the mid-nineteenth century, is home to many of Australia's greatest designer labels, jewellers, restaurants, coffee shops, one-of-a-kind gift shops, and beauty salons. The Strand Arcade, which opened in 1892, was the last of Victorian Sydney's arcades to be completed, and it is the only one still standing today in its original form.
In the midst of the rush and bustle of Sydney's central business district, the Strand Arcade remains a breathtaking grandeur. Many stores, like as Elie's Leather Repair, John Azzi Hair, The Nut Shop and Strand Hatters, have been in business for decades and have become well-known Sydney icons. The centre is now a one-of-a-kind combination of Australian designer apparel and speciality retailers catering to a refined audience.
This shopping arcade was designed by English architect John Spencer in the mid-1890s and inaugurated in 1892. It was Sydney's fifth and final shopping arcade established during the Victorian era, and it is the only one still standing. There's also an Italian-inspired restaurant, The Restaurant Pendolino, as well as an adjacent wine bar/food shop, La Rosa The Strand.
The Strand Arcade is located between George Street and the Pitt Street Mall in Sydney's CBD. It's a 15-minute walk south of Circular Quay or a 5-minute walk inland from Cockle Bay Wharf. Within a five-minute walk, you'll find the Saint James, Town Hall, and Martin Place stations.
