Thaipusam is a well-known Hindu festival that honours Lord Murugan and is held in the months of January and February. On a specific day, a spectacular procession is organised from the Sri Mahamariamman Temple to Elk Hill. The procession is followed by worshippers and pilgrims carrying big containers filled with milk as an offering. Some devotees also carry a 'kavadi' on their back, which is decked with flowers and peacock feathers and contains milk offerings. At the festival, a dance form known as Kavadi Attam is also performed.

Special Tip

The Ooty Bus Stand is a short distance away from the shrine. You can either take a jeep or an auto from the Ooty ATC bus station to get to the temple.
