Why to visit Droog Fort

The historical site of Droog Fort amid the picturesque hills of Nilgiri near Coonoor is nestled among nature's exquisite beauty. Only an hour away, this magnificent citadel is a must-see for anyone considering a three-day or longer trip to Ooty.

According to mythology, a demon named Bakasura formerly resided here, which is why the location is also known as Pakasuran Malai. In Kannada, it is known as Hulika Durg because of a nearby hamlet named Hulikal. According to legend, Badaga killed a man-eater near Hulikal, also known as Tiger Stone.

The fort is open from dawn until dusk, giving tourists plenty of time to enjoy the magnificent hike and take up the atmosphere.

In less than an hour, you may get a cab from Ooty to Nonsuch Tea Estate, which is 27 kilometres away, and then begin the hike to Droog while taking in the panoramic views of the beautiful green surroundings.
