Why to visit St Aloysius Chapel

The Chapel is a Catholic Church and a popular tourist attraction located atop Lighthouse Hill. It has a regal appearance that is breathtaking from the moment you enter. The magnificent wall murals of St. Aloysius Chapel draw a considerable number of tourists.

Antonio Moscheni, an Italian Jesuit, visited Mangalore on a mission in 1878 and created these paintings in 1899. What we see are primarily restored paintings that have been damaged through time, yet St Aloysius Chapel's charm and authenticity have been preserved.

This is Mangalore's version of the Sistine Chapel, and it provides a quiet ambience to help a restless mind relax. If you want to catch a piece of the city's history and natural surroundings, the view of the Arabian Sea from the campus is well worth the trip.
