Why to visit Manjarabad Fort
The climb to the fort is strenuous, but the view of the Western Ghats from the summit is breathtaking.
Sakleshpur got its name from the broken Shiv linga that the Hoysalas discovered upon their arrival, according to legend. The town was also ruled by the Mysore and Chalukya monarchs, and there is another mythology that claims the town got its name from its agricultural prowess.
At 3,240 feet above sea level, the octagonal star-shaped Manjarabad Fort is 6 kilometres from the town's bus stop. On a clear day, the fort, which is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, offers expansive views of the hillscape and even the Arabian Sea.
