The Manali Sanctuary starts right behind the town and reaches all the way to the top of the mountains there. The sanctuary is equipped with all the standard features of a refuge in 31.80 square kilometres. It supports a wide variety of rare, threatened, and common plant and animal species, including the Himalayan Black Bear, Kashmir Flying Squirrel, Himalayan Palm Civet, Himalayan Yellow-throated Marten, Barking Deer, Flying Fox, etc.
