Why to visit Rankala Lake
The Rankala Lake is a popular tourist destination for people from all over the world. It immediately moves to the top of everyone's list of locations to visit due to its natural beauty and serene surroundings. The lake was constructed by Kolhapur's then-king, Shri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. Rajgath and Marathghat are the two ghats that the lake has. Up to 107 hectares of the lake's surface are covered by water. People typically visit the lake in the evening.
Chowpati and other gardens encircle the lake. The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation recently constructed "Padpath Udyan" for a lakeside walk. In addition, the lake provides a variety of entertainment options for visitors. Here, visitors can do horseback riding and boating. Along the lake, there are several food stands offering delectable snacks at affordable costs. The lake's sides are kept up properly, and there are benches and lovely gardens there. It is a well-liked amusement area and picnic destination for Kolhapur residents.
Legends says that...
The tranquil beauty of Rankala Lake is further masked by a number of myths. Before the eighth century AD, it's thought that this location was merely a stone quarry, but after the earthquake of the ninth century AD, a natural transformation took place, and water began to build up in the quarry and brought life to the lake.
The name of this large lake comes from the temple of the god Rankabhairav, who is claimed to have been Mahalaxmi's favourite and whose now-submerged golden temple bears his name.
