History of Kodaikanal Golf Club
- Established by a group of twelve British golfers on June 17, 1895, the Kodaikanal Golf Club was founded and designed by its own members.
- Initially, the club mainly consisted of British and American civil servants as well as missionaries.
- Throughout the 1950s, a unique tradition was established where the captaincy position rotated annually among an Indian, an American, and a Commonwealth citizen.
- However, this tradition ceased in the late 1970s due to a decline in the local expatriate community.
- Initially featuring only 9 holes with browns as putting surfaces, the course was expanded to 18 holes in the early 1950s.
- Subsequently, in 1986, the putting surfaces were replaced with greens.
- The clubhouse, known as the Centenary Building, underwent renovations in 1995.
