Gaurikund is the starting point for the 16-kilometer trip to Kedarnath's hallowed shrine. It is at a height of 1,982 metres above sea level. The location is named after Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva's wife, and a temple dedicated to her is located nearby.The Hindu holy location of Gauri Kund Lake is well-known.
It is also the starting point for the walk to the Kedarnath temple.
