Matanga Hill, located barely a kilometre from Hampi's major bus station, is the city's highest point and hence one of the greatest spots to get a bird's eye perspective of the city. The Ramayana describes this hill as the location of Saint Matanga's hermitage, hence it is suitably named. The climb to the summit of the hilltop is a famous tourist and local destination
