Why to visit Assam State Museum

The Assam State Museum, also known as the Assam Rajyik State Museum, is located in the Dighali Pukhuri tank in the heart of Guwahati city. It is one of the most well-known museums in North-East India, providing insights into the rich culture of ancient history as well as North-East India's modern history. Its prominent location in the centre of the city attracts a large number of history buffs and tourists visiting Guwahati.

In 1940, during the British colonialism of India, the museum was built. It was established by the Kamarupa Anusandhan Samiti, an Assam research organisation, to promote North East India's history, sculptures, and handicrafts. The museum was built during Kanklal Baruah's presidency, and it was taken over by the state shortly after his death in 1953.

The Museum has a large collection of antiquities and sculptures dating from the 5th to the 12th centuries, as well as recent World War II items. If you want a glimpse into the history of North-east India, this museum is an excellent location to go.

Special Tip

A parking space in the premises is offered for Rs 30. A minimum of four vehicles can be parked.
