Why to visit Zagori

This place is part of the Epirus region and is a gem in the Aegean crown. It is a hilly location and is a renowned winter holiday area, and its outstanding scenic habitat has made it a popular summer destination for foreign travellers as well. Zagori has well-marked trails that wind through lush forests, stone arches, creeks, rivers, deep gorges, temples, and more than 45 settlements. All of this stretches across hundreds of kilometres, making Zagori a hiker's paradise.

Given Zagori's mountainous grandeur, it's astonishing how few visitors the region receives. Authentic Greece is very much alive and well here. The tranquil thousand-year-old hamlets and villages snuggled beneath the hardwood Pindos Mountains are proof of this. The UNESCO-protected Vikos Gorge passes through the range, making it the world's deepest canyon, according to the Guinness Book of Records. The gorge is nestled between two national parks, providing a safe refuge for endangered plants and animals.

There are numerous activities for the courageous, and the paths are used for the summertime Zagori Mountain Running event, in which climbers take on the task of climbing up the alpine Drakolimni Lake or one of its summits. The streams of Zagori provide several opportunities for canoeing or kayaking, making it one of the best places to visit in Greece.

The distance between Corfu and the Zagori region on the Greek mainland is approximately 93 miles (150 km). The most easiest method to arrive to Zagori is to take a boat from Corfu to Igoumenitsa and then drive or utilise a private transfer to your ultimate location in the Zagori region.

Special Tip

For real Zagori cuisine, visit the Astra Inn or the Beloit Restaurant. Make sure to try the Zagori pies while you're here. The cuisine served here is organic and genuine. Also, cards are accepted in every section of this site, so have fun without hesitation.
