Why to visit Directorate of Handicrafts & Handlooms
Gangtok is well-known for its handicrafts and handloom fabrics. The government established the Handicrafts and Handloom Emporium to encourage the younger generation to practise these traditional talents. It's rare to come across such a devoted facility in this day and age, when technology has taken over everything. Their efforts have paid off, as evidenced by the different items on exhibit at the Emporium for sale. Hand-woven carpets, traditional Sikkimese garments, Tibetan-style furniture, and exquisitely handmade toys are just a few of the items created by the students here.

Carry cash because many stores do not take credit cards.
