Why to visit Rajghat
Rajpath is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Gandhi's cremation site is marked with a black stone platform in an open-air compound. A flame burns constantly at one end of the platform, and visitors must remove their shoes before entering Raj Ghat. The Jawaharlal Nehru memorial, known as Shantivan, is also near to the Raj Ghat.
Vanu G. Bhuta constructed the memorial with the intention of reflecting the Mahatma's simplicity of life. It has received multiple architectural design honours.
There are labelled trees planted around the memorial by visiting dignitaries such as Queen Elizabeth II, Ho Chi Minh, former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitman, and former US President Dwight Eisenhower.
Many visitors, including political leaders, pay their respects to Mahatma Gandhi. Foreign dignitaries visiting India nowadays pay respect to Gandhi here by putting flowers on the podium.
Entrance fee and timing at Raj Ghat:
- The opening hours for Raj Ghat are 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It is open seven days a week.
- There is no entrance fee to visit the memorial.Every Friday at 5.30 PM, a special prayer meeting is held at the Raj Ghat.

How to reach Raj Ghat?
It is about 4 kilometres from Janpath Market, a major shopping destination in Delhi. Raj Ghat's address is Gandhi Smriti, Raj Ghat, New Delhi. Raj Ghat is accessible by both road and metro train. The Delhi Metro station on the Violet line is around 800 metres distant from Raj Ghat. Other close metro stations include Indraprastha on the Blue line and Chandni Chowk on the Yellow line, which are around 2km and 3km away, respectively.

There is also a Gandhi Memorial Museum, where a film about Gandhi's life and philosophy is shown between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., except on Thursday. It is also shown in Hindi at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and in English at 5 p.m.
