Why to visit MEENA BAZAAR
Meena Bazar is among the oldest continuously operating markets in the entire globe, not just in India. You can get jewellery, traditional china, artwork, carpets, and home furnishings here. Meena Bazar has been mentioned in many Bollywood films in songs and dialogue, giving it a romantic, feminine appeal.
History of Meena Bazar:
- During Shah Jahan's reign, Mukarmat Khan created and built Meena Bazar. Given Delhi's harsh climate, it was one of the first covered markets built in the 17th century. It was referred to as "bazaar-i-Musaqqaf" or "chhatta-bazar" during the 17th century and meaning "market with a roof."
- Rare goods such carpets, shtranjis, saffron, spices, precious stones, copper ware, brass, beautiful wood, jewellery, and other items were for sale in this market, which catered to the royal family.
What to shop at Meena Bazar:
- As its name suggests, Meena Bazaar is a marketplace for goods including jewellery, carpets, hand-woven bed sheets, Pashmina shawls, home décor antiques, showpieces, cooking utensils, royal silverware, and many other unique products.
