Why to visit Ghalib Ki Haveli

This haveli, which dates back to the Mughal era and is 300 years old, was given to Ghalib by one of his admirers. Ghalib spent his final ten years of life in this haveli.

Several artifacts from the poet's life and times are housed in the building, which is now a cultural monument. The Archaeological Survey of India has listed Ghalib ki Haveli as a historic site.

The history behind Ghalib Ki Haveli:

  • After returning from Agra, Mirza Ghalib is thought to have spent a considerable amount of time living in this haveli.
  • He authored several of his Persian and Urdu "diwans" in this location. The haveli housed many shops following Ghalib's passing until 1999.
  • Then the government took over the haveli. Then it got renovated and became a memorial museum.

Things to see inside Ghalib Ki Haveli:

  • Some of Ghalib's possessions are still kept in the palace, which also has a classic imitation figure of him holding a hookah.
  • Here are saved his handwritten ghazals, excerpts from his novels, couplets, as well as some of his personal effects and his last known photograph.
