Why to visit Shakti Peeth Chamunda Devi Temple
Chamunda Devi Temple can be found in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. Chamunda is a combination of the words Chanda and Munda. If you want to find peace, this is one of the best places to go. Chamunda's other names include Chamundi, Chamundeshwari, and Charchika.
Goddess Chamunda is also one of the chief Yoginis, a group of sixty-four or eighty-one Tantric goddesses who serve as Durga's attendants. She is linked to Kali Ma, another fierce manifestation of Devi.
Significance of Shakti Peeth Chamunda Devi Temple
- Chamunda's idol is made of black and red coloured stone. She is wearing a garland of several heads or skulls in the idol.
- She is said to have four, eight, ten, or twelve arms and to be carrying a Damaru, trishula, sword, snake, skull-mace, thunderbolt, severed head, and panapatra or skull-cup filled with blood.
- She has a skeletal body, three eyes, a terrifying face, drooping breasts, protruding teeth, long nails, and a sunken belly. She is either standing on a man's corpse or seated on a defeated demon or corpse.
- As a decoration, she has a scorpion sitting on her navel. Chamunda is depicted with ornaments of bones, skulls, serpents, and scorpions, representing disease and death.
- She also wears a skull Yajnopavita. Hindu male priests wear yajnopavita. She is dressed in a jata mukuta, a headdress made of piled, matted hair tied with snakes or skull ornaments.

Timings
Darshan in Chamunda Devi Temple starts from 6 am to 12 pm, and then from 1 pm to 9 pm. Arti starts from 8 am to 6 pm during the summer and 8 am to 8 pm during the winter.

- By Road - The temple is located about 10 kilometres west of Palampur on the Baner River and is accessible by bus or taxi.
- By Railways - the nearest railhead on the narrow gauge line is 30 kilometres away in Moranda, near Palampur.
- By air - the nearest airport is Kangra Airport in Gaggal, close to Dharamshala. It is 28 kilometres from the Chamunda Devi Temple.
