This museum was named after Raja Bhuri Singh, the ruler of Chamba from 1904 to 1919. Mr. Singh's painting collection was donated after his death. Following this event, the idea for establishing a public museum arose. The collection has grown over the years. It is now a major repository of local history and culture, with coins, jewellery, clothing, and attire.

  • The Bhuri Singh Museum houses a small but valuable collection of carved doors from old palaces that represent the richness of Chamba history, as well as incredible frescoes artworks, antique copper plate grants, old miniature paintings, remarkable title deeds, and ancient inscriptions on Chamba's mediaeval antiquity.
  • J. Ph. Voghel, an Indologist with the Archaeological Survey of India, travelled throughout Chamba and discovered many old inscriptions scattered throughout the valley, which are now on display at the Bhuri Singh Museum. 
  • The majority of these inscriptions, including the Prasastis of Sarahan, Devi-ri-Kothi, and Mul Kihar, are in Sarda script and reveal important aspects of Chamba's mediaeval history. 
  • Along with these, you can admire the fantastic artwork of the Basohli School paintings depicting scenes from the great Indian epics Bhagwat Purana and Ramayana.
