The monastery, one of the country's oldest, is divided into old and new buildings. These two buildings are located quite a ways apart from one another. The monastery, one of the branches of Eastern Tibet's Palpung Monastery, is home to more than 1200 monks.

- A school, college, and university are located within the monastery complex where visitors can study the past, present, and future of Buddha.
