Why to visit Motihang Takin Reserve

Motithang Takin Preserve is one of the places to visit in Thimphu for animal lovers who want to observe Bhutan's unique wildlife. The Motithang Takin Preservation was originally intended to be a tiny zoo, but it was eventually transformed into an animal preserve centre. Takin, Bhutan's national animal, resides in the Motithang Takin Preserve. With so many things to see and do in Thimphu, Motithang Takin Preserve stands out. The reserve is one of a kind among all the things to view in Thimphu, with wildlife such as red pans and the uncommon Himalayan serow residing there.

The takin is Bhutan's national animal, and a visit to Motithang Takin Preserve in Thimphu is a must. This one-of-a-kind animal with the face of a goat and the body of a cow can only be found in Bhutan. The Buddhist yogi Drupa Kunley, also known as "The Divine Madman," is said to have founded Takin in the 15th century, according to legend. Today, the Takin that can be found in the preserve are a popular tourist attraction. The preserve is 8.4 acres in size, with alpine meadows covering a substantial portion of it.

The development of the Motithang Takin Preserve, one of Bhutan's most well-known tourist attractions, has an interesting backstory. The takin that can now be seen in the preserve used to be kept in a tiny zoo. Bhutan's King was upset by their enslavement, believing it was unethical for a Buddhist country to do so. He ordered the zoo to close and the animals to be released. They refused to leave their familiar territory, much to everyone's amazement. The decision was made to create a habitat for them, and the Motithang Takin Preserve was born.

Special Tip
