Why to visit Babesa Village Restaurant

Think real Bhutanese non-vegetarian cuisine, and you'll probably end up here. Try their set dinners, which begin with hot beverages such as butter tea (which is similar to a cream soup in many aspects), rice, dry pork/beef curry, and various veggies such as turnip, eggplants, and/or fern with cheese. Overall, a resounding yes for anyone interested in sampling Bhutan's unusual national cuisine during their visit. The seating is cosy, with low ceilings, and the venue is housed in a historic building, adding to the overall atmosphere.

The Babesa Village Restaurant's food is worth the extra miles despite its location on the outskirts of Thimphu's main town, roughly seven kilometres away. The food offered by this restaurant, which is located in a heritage property near the Paro-Thimphu highway, is equally adored by locals and international visitors. The hosts still reside at this cafe, which is essentially a home. To go into the house, you'll have to ascend a few steps. Then you have the option of sitting in the busy main dining area or up some precariously held wooden steps to the top room for a calmer, more intimate setting.

Special Tip

I highly recommend their Pork Dache, which has a little sweet but savoury flavour that reminds me of veal.
