Why to visit Authentic Bhutanese Crafts Bazaar
The Authentic Bhutanese Crafts Bazaar, also known as Thimphu's handicraft market, is an excellent venue to get a peek of Bhutanese art and craft. The ever-smiling Bhutanese people, who are largely young, will greet you as you enter the place. The shops are made of environmentally friendly bamboo, and the brilliant colours on show will captivate you. Only genuine items manufactured by locals are sold here, and the hard effort that goes into them can be seen.
This shop is right next to the Norzin lam, and it's easy to find. This is a handcraft shop with some fantastic items, and customers adore the attention to detail. While strolling around the market, one cannot help but notice the display of photographs, images, royal costumes, or batches of the Bhutanese king and queen in practically every shop, which clearly demonstrates the people's reverence for their ruler. Apart from locally created handbags and other materials, there are a few miniatures of symbolic statues, including the Buddha, that may be purchased here.
Special Tip
You can purchase colourful notebooks, journals, or greeting cards to bring the flavour of Bhutan home with you. You are not permitted to carry ancient handicrafts out of the nation, so don't buy any. Also, it is closed on Sundays.
