Why to visit Treta Ke Thakur
Treta ke Thakur is situated along the Naya Ghat of Ayodhya. It houses numerous idols including Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Bharat, Hanuman, and Sugreev. These statues are said to have been sculpted out of a single black stone.
The temple is considered as very important because Shree Ram performed a ceremony called ‘Ashwamedha Yagya’ here to celebrate winning over Ravana. The Treta ke Thakur Temple opens just once a year, on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi in October or November. It stays open for 24 hours on this special day, celebrated grandly.
What To Expect?
- The temple showcases a wonderful style of North Indian architecture with its traditional “shikhara” design.
- The idols of Lord Ram, his three brothers, and Mata Sita were believed to be moved from the original temple which is said to be the original Ram Mandir.
Did You Know?
The temple we see today was constructed around 300 years ago by the king of Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. Back then, it was called the 'temple of Kalram'. Queen Ahilyabai Holkar renovated it in 1784 AD.
