Why to visit Kanak Bhawan

Kanak Bhawan is situated in the northeast direction of Ram Janmabhoomi. After Ram Janmabhoomi and Hanuman Garhi, this is another popular must-visit temple in Ayodhya. Devotees believe that Queen Kaikeyi gave Kanak Bhawan as a gift to Mata Sita right after her marriage to Shri Ram. An intriguing aspect of the temple is that the entire restoration was conducted by Muslim workers.

What to Expect?

At Kanak Bhawan, you can see the following wonders:

  • Kanak Bhawan, also called the ‘Golden Palace’ or ‘Sone ka Ghar’, has three idols of Sri Ram and Mata Sita with golden crowns under a silver roof.
  • Inside the premises, tourists can see three deity idols: Kanak Bihari, Manak Bihari, and Jugal Bihari
  • The temple showcases the Bundelkhand architectural style and stands out as the most beautiful palace in Ayodhya

Did you know?

In ancient times, during the Treta Yug, Sri Ram's step-mother Kaikeyi gifted this palace to him and Sita as a wedding present. Over time, it became run-down and was reconstructed several times. During Vikramaditya's reign, it was completely renovated, and later, Vrish Bhanu Kunwari further revamped the site. Today, it's managed by the Sri Vrishbhan Dharma Setu Trust Pvt. Ltd.
