Why to visit Pitalkhora Caves

The biggest group of monuments belonging to the Satavahana Dynasty is this rock-cut Buddhist cave complex from the third century. The caves, also known as Brazen Glen, are made up of fourteen rock-cut buildings with superb architectural and artistic styles. Four of the fourteen monuments are chaityas, while the other twelve are viharas.

The Pitalkhora Caves are believed to have existed from the 1st century BC until the 5th century AD. These stunning caves, discovered in 1853 and less well-known than Ajanta and Ellora Caves, exhibit beautiful inscriptions of animals and statues of soldiers. They're carved out of several types of basalt rock. However, some of them have been harmed as a result of the weather.

Pitalkhora Caves, near Bharmarwadi hamlet in the Aurangabad district, are one of Maharashtra's oldest caves.

Special Tip

Some of the caves are damaged due to climate....be careful
