Why to visit Calico Textile Museum

The oldest textile museum in Ahmedabad is the Calico Textile Museum, which is located at the Retreat on Airport Road. This museum was founded by Gautam Sarabhai and his sister Gita Sarabhai, and it was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the former Prime Minister of India.

An beautiful wall hanging representing Krishna hangs from the second floor to the ground level of this valuable gem. An embroidered tent and Shah Jahan's robes are also on display at the museum.

The museum's division displaying ancient texts and mandalas printed on palm leaves is a must-see area of the incredible museum. Visitors go to the eye-catching museum to learn about the country's textile tradition.

The exhibits span from a collection of textiles to famous professors' study on Indian art and craft. The double ikkat textile, with its one lakh threads individually coloured before weaving, is one of the most impressive exhibitions.

Special Tip

Children below ten years are not allowed inside the museum. Photography is not permitted.
