Why to visit Fatehpur Sikri

Agra has the town of Fatehpur Sikri. In the year 1569, Emperor Akbar founded it. Construction takes 15 years to complete. It consists of temples and monuments, all of which have distinctive architectural designs.

  • Mariam-Uz-Zamani later gave birth to Jehangir in the same village in 1569. Akbar constructed a religious complex to honour the Sheikh.
  • Later, the area saw the construction of a planned walled city. Akbar's Gujarat campaign saw the completion of the city's construction. Akbar gave the city the name Fatehpur Sikri, which meaning City of Victory, as a way to commemorate the campaign's success.

  • The structures of Fatehpur Sikri are a distinctive synthesis of several architectural traditions.
  • Although the overall design and concept of the buildings adhere to Islamic architectural principles, the particular structures (mostly palaces), with their elaborate columns, arches, carving styles, etc., do not.

  • It has a robust Hindu aesthetic in general and Gujarati and Rajasthani aesthetics in particular.

When is the best time to visit Fatehpur Sikri?

It is advisable to get to the city in the late afternoon and stay until the sun sets. At sunset, the location becomes more picturesque. The red sandstone cliffs take up vivid colours as the sun sets. The monsoon and summer months should be avoided when it comes to the weather. Wintertime is the ideal season to go there. Winter lasts from October to March.

In reality, aside from the Jama Mosque Complex, no touts are permitted in the Royal Enclosures, therefore you must purchase your tickets out of pocket.
