HISTORY 

Bir-Billing was established in nearly around 1966. Neten Chokling an incarnate Lama of lineage of Nyingma a Tibetan Buddhism. He came along with few of his followers and settled in Bir. He purchased 200 acre land from Indian government and settled 300 Tibetan families who built their houses there. Since then Neten dynasty built monasteries and welcomed disciplines who have followed them. At present fourth Neten Chokling has taken responsibility for Pewa Ewan Chogar Gyumer Lungi Dynasty. 

CULTURE AND FOLK DANCE

High in Himalayas in those maroon robes, these monks sway all over village. Bir is exclusively a Tibetan town where monasteries stand tall and you can indulge in peace and tranquility. Meditate among monks and people attain self control and patience. Lama Himachal dance is performed in Bir on several auspicious occasions and functions.

• VISIT PARAGLIDING TAKE OFF SITE: If you have vertigo or you are not medically fit to indulge in paragliding, don’t miss out on visiting the site. Amidst scintillating snowcapped mountains, sprawling gardens and just a stroll around is a wild experience in itself. 
• TRAVEL BY TOY TRAIN: Toy train is a childhood fantasy of almost every individual. Then fulfill your fantasy and take a ride on toy train. It’s a 160 km long distance which is travelled by train amid mountains, wooden bridges, quaint villages and breathtaking landscapes. You will be awestruck in whole journey and capture it in your camera.
• GUNEHAR WATERFALL: It is a tourist attraction for its scintillating view and spellbound beauty. It’s just about 3 kms and is located in Gunehar village. To reach any waterfall in Bir-Billing you need to cross a trek. 
• BIR RIVER: It’s a must visit place in Bir to provide tranquil nature near gushing water and rendering yearned escape you have been seeking. Take a long walk or just sit and look at nature to calm your weary soul. 
• DEER PARK INSTITUTE: It is a institute to study and practice classical Buddhist traditions, patronage by Dalai Lama. It organizes several events round the year where you can broaden your horizon and instill many valuable life lessons. 
• CHOKLING MONASTERY: Dazzling white building in mountains it’s a place to meditate and cultural exhilarating. It also has a retreat center where you can take a break from city life and stay to revive yourself.  It also has white lush greenery and flags fluttering in front as a symbol of beauty and divinity. 
• BANGORU WATERFALL: Bir-Billing has several small waterfalls but Bangoru is a must visit waterfall because of its surroundings. Just about 4.5  from Bir, you just have to cross a simple trek to reach . It has pristine water falling on boulders and splashing all around. 
• SHEHRAB LING MONASTERY: There are plethora of monasteries in town due to Tibetan culture. Every monastery is a symbol of peace, in Shehrab you can indulge in meditation and yoga courses. It offers meditation and yoga courses for long term as well as short term. 
• BAIJNATH TEMPLE: Lord Shiva is believed to heal or cure your medical illness. Hence Baijnath temple is devoted to lord Shiva. People have faith that water here can cure your illness and this is one of the most sacred and revered Hindu temple in Himachal Pradesh. 
• TIBETAN COLONY: Tibetan colony is famous for selling handicrafts and artifacts showcasing Tibetan culture. While shopping taste authentic Tibetan food as well. 
• CHOWGAN TEA GARDENS: Every mountain has flora and fauna in abundant. Rich with plantation Bir has tea gardens where you can roam around the bushes and also taste some tea. 
• DRUKPA KAGYU MONASTERY: Bir-Billing has so many tranquil monasteries that you will run out of days. Every monastery is different from other. Drukpa is famous for its inscriptions and resonating Tibetan culture. Here you can learn about monks and lineage of Nyingma and Bir-Billing history.

HOW TO REACH

• AIRPORT: Gaggal airport is the nearest around 68 km from city. It is connected to many metro cities. 
• RAILWAY: Bir-Billing is about 2 hours from Dharamshala. You can travel from anywhere to Dharamshala junction and can hire a cab. Another option is taking a train to Baijnath junction from Dharamshala. 
• ROAD: Bir-Billing is well connected via roads to Dharamshala and Gaggal. There are several buses which operate from Delhi and Manali connecting to Bir-Billing. HRTC Volvo buses also connect well through every city.
